Mucky Mountains Morris

Have you ever wanted to shake a leg, wave a hanky or brandish a stick? Morris dancing is sociable, it keeps you fit and it keeps our old traditions alive. What’s more, it’s a lot of fun. Why not come along and have a go? We practise at Windle Social Club, Denton’s Green Lane WA10 2QF most Thursdays – but contact us to check first.

Muckies were honoured, delighted and even a little surprised to be awarded the Gordon Crowther Spirit of the Dance Staff for the fourth time at the 2025 Yorkshire Coast Weekend of Dance. Here we are on the beach in Scarborough after a very enjoyable weekend.

Who are we?

Mucky Mountains Morris is a mixed Morris side based around St Helens in Merseyside. Our dances are mainly in the Cotswold and Border traditions. We enjoy ourselves immensely, dancing at local events, pubs, days of dance and folk gatherings in the North West and beyond. From September to April we have a practice session almost every Thursday night. We celebrated our 30th Anniversary in 2019-20 and some of our original members are still going strong.

If you fancy trying Morris dancing, come along and have a go at learning how it’s done! It’s easier than you think and a great deal of fun. Morris is for everybody.

See our events list for where we are dancing next, our contact page to get in touch, our Photo Albums for photos from this and other years, and our non-events list for other stuff, such as our kit and instructions for our dances.

Performances

We have a busy programme of performances throughout the summer. Our 2025 Day of Dance was on Saturday 6 September in and around St Helens. Pictures available in our 2025 Gallery.

Our next Day of Dance will take place in St Helens on Sat 26 September 2026, with visiting sides from all over the country. It will be a great, colourful day – come along and watch and join in!

Our weekly practice sessions are on Thursday evenings – why not come along and join us?

Community and charity

We are always keen to support local community events and charities. See our events list and dancers’ links for some of the causes we’ve supported.

Bus Pass Morris

We now have just about enough retired dancers and musicians to entertain at the occasional midweek daytime event, mainly for charities, community groups and schools.

Confusion

In case you’re unsure of our name, we’re Mucky Mountains Morris, not Mucky Mountain Morris or Mucky Mountains Morris Men!
